Kerala Authorities Order Culling of Over 20,000 Birds After Bird Flu Confirmation

Kochi. Authorities in the southern Indian state of Kerala have ordered the culling of over 20,000 birds after confirming an outbreak of Bird Flu (Avian Influenza).According to local media, this measure is being taken to control the situation in the affected districts of Kozhikode and Alappuzha. Approximately 14,228 birds will be culled in Kozhikode and 5,961 in Alappuzha.The decision was made after highly pathogenic Avian Influenza was confirmed in samples sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal.So far, the disease has only been observed in birds.
