KMC to administer COVID-19 vaccines at four transit points

KATHMANDU, November 23: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 at four main transit points – Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park. The campaign will last for a month. The KMC Health Service Department said the vaccination drive is conducted in association with the District Health Office and it will be running for one month at Kalanki, Balkhu, Koteshwor and New Bus Park Gongabu.   The vaccination programme that started on November 21 will run till December 20. All citizens completing 18 years of age and entering Kathmandu would be given the jabs on the basis of a certificate showing their age, according to the KMC.  KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said that he was always mindful of the health safety of the citizens, recalling that KMC had provided various medical supplies including equipment and also extended support in resource mobilization to 12 hospitals, including the government and community ones in the Kathmandu Valley during the second wave of coronavirus pandemic. KMC Health Department Chief Hari Bahadur Kunwar said “the Verocell, Covishield and AstraZeneca vaccines would be administered to the target group at all the four designated vaccination centres.”  With this, the programme for administering the first and second dose vaccines against coronavirus infection would be operated at all the 32 Wards of KMC from the designated vaccination centres on November 23 and 24. “People above the 18 years age group and all citizens who missed the vaccination before this and those who have completed eight weeks after getting the first dose would be given the second dose,” KMC Health Department said.

KMC provides hotline number 1180 in aid of people without food

KATHMANDU, June 3: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged people having problem managing food during the lockdown to call at hotline number 1180 for assistance.  A majority of the districts across the country have implemented lockdown to prevent the spread of the second wave of COVID-19. KMC said anyone needing foodstuff for sustenance during the lockdown period to make a call at its hotline. KMC had distributed food and groceries to people facing food shortage during the time of the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic last year. It had done so in coordination with various organisations and with its wards. "The number of people coming in contact of KMC citing problem managing food is very less this time compared to last year. We are providing support to those coming to us with this problem through the ward office. I urge anyone facing problem of food shortage to inform us by dialing at 1180 for help," KMC spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol said. He said after getting the information, the KMC will provide the required foodstuffs to the needy person from the respective ward where the person seeking support resides. Meanwhile, KMC has brought into operation a total 20 ambulances free of charge for facilitating in the treatment of patients. Out of these ambulances, 10 are meant for COVID-19 patients and the remaining 10 for non-COVID patients.  Anyone needing ambulance service can call at 102.  Dangol said so far 22 thousand COVID-19 patients and 12 thousand non-COVID patients have availed of this service. Similarly, the KMC has brought into operation 309-bed isolation and special hospital for easing the sheer number of patients needing oxygen at hospitals in view of the situation obtaining from oxygen shortage.  Out of 62 thousand 383 coronavirus infection cases reported in KMC so far, 51thousand 167 have recovered while 10 thousand 95 are in home isolation and 186 are in institutional isolation.  The number of active infection cases is 10 thousand 797 and of them 516 are under treatment in hospitals. Four hundred and nineteen people have died of COVID-19.

KMC intensifies tests in settlements after COVID-19 outbreak

KATHMANDU, May 19: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified the tests in more crowded areas after the graph of coronavirus infection caseload has reached at alarming level day after another.  In order to contain the pandemic by identifying the status of the infected, KMC and Division of Epidemiology and Disease Prevention jointly initiated a bid to step up the antigen and PCR tests.  According to KMC sources, 12 out of 402 tested through antigen procedure in Kalimati vegetable market on Tuesday were diagnosed with coronavirus infection. It is to take place at Tukucha vegetable market today.  The tests have been initiated in the most vulnerable areas for transmission as identified by the Ministry of Health and COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre. A target is to perform such tests among 10,000 people.  KMC Health Division Chief Hari Kunwar said, “Results drawn from the tests would be helpful in sending the symptomatic patients to hospitals and asymptomatic patients to home isolation for monitoring”.  As per the plan, the antigen tests would be stepped up in the more populated areas such as Asan, Dillibazaar, New Road, Baluwatar and Koteswor in collaboration with KMC. Likewise, it would be performed in Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square in partnership with the concerned local level.  The KMC also has intensified PCR test in view of the rise in the spread of coronavirus infection. KMC is planning to collect swab for PCR tests in 16 sites from coming Sunday. The tests are undertaken among 600 people every day in 32 wards and 420 among the tested are found infected with coronavirus, said KMC Public Health Division.  As informed the KMC has also make arrangement to take the patients with severe infection to hospitals through ambulance. So far there are 11,631 active coronavirus infected in KMC.
