Rome. The Italian government has moved forward with preparations to ban burqas and niqabs, face-covering clothing, in schools and to limit the number of foreign students in classrooms. A warning has been issued that violating the new rules could result in a fine of up to 1,000 euros. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's cabinet passed an ordinance on Thursday making burqas and niqabs illegal in schools. It has also been arranged that from next year, the number of students who do not speak Italian in classrooms will not exceed 30 percent.
