The number of patients coming to Tatopani Kunda (hot water spring) in Myagdi has been increasing after the recent fall in the risk of COVID-19 infection. The number of patients coming to Kunda, in Ward No. 4 in Beni Municipality, considered a natural treatment, has increased. It was reopened to the public on February 13 as the number of infections has been in decline across the country.

268 health workers contracted COVID-19 in Gandaki Province in three weeks

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: At least 268 health workers and doctors have been infected with COVID-19 in Gandaki Province in a period of three weeks, according to the Provincial Health Directorate.  Pokhara, the provincial capital, has most of the infection cases, said Nawaraj Sharma, coordinator of the provincial health emergency work operations centre under the Directorate.  “The number of health workers on the frontline against the infection contracting the virus has been increasing. Most of the infected are from Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, infectious and communicable disease hospital and Beni Hospital,” he said.  The infected health workers include 138 (Kaski), 42 (Tanahun), 20 (Lamjung), 17 (Nawalparasi), 12 (Syangja), 11 (Baglung), 10 (Parbat), nine (Myagdi), six (Gorkha) and three (Mustang).  All the infected have been in home isolation and their health is normal, said the Directorate.

Hotels and lodges in Myagdi filled with domestic tourists

MYAGDI, October 18: The hotels and lodges here are full of domestic tourists who have arrived for visiting various tourism destinations in Myagdi and Mustang districts. The tourist arrival has surged immediately after Dashain festival. "The hotels and lodges here are full of tourists. Visitors in such big numbers have arrived after two years," said Baburam Acharya, President of Hotel and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association Myagdi. As he said, the hotels and lodges in Beni, Galeshwor, Pokharebagar, Bhurung-Tatopani, Dana, Ghorepani and Singa are filled with domestic tourists. The Association's Mygadi chapter said that the 50 hotels in Beni have the capacity to accommodate 1,000 tourists. The hoteliers have said they had to send some guests to Baglung and Kusma for lack of rooms in Beni. Large number of visitors from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Biratnagar, Rupandehi, among other places arrived here since the day after October 15, the day of Bada Dashain festival. They are on their way to Mustang via Myagdi. Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Indra Bahadur Nepali said the number of tourists travelling to and from Mustang in motorcycles and private cars has suddenly surged. According to him, more than 500 vehicles are travelling on the Beni-Jomsom road daily since the last two days. Before this, 100 to 150 vehicles used to ply on this road daily. The surge in tourists has elated the hotel and restaurant operators here in the district. They are hopeful of their business picking up after suffering a blow for about two years due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Nepal’s fight against COVID-19: 60 districts under prohibitory orders

KATHMANDU, May 7: With the country being ravaged by the deadlier second wave of the coronavirus disease, local administrations have enforced prohibitory orders in a bid to curb the spread of virus to the community level. Utilizing the authority provided by the Cabinet that the districts can enforce restriction orders if the number of active cases exceed 200 (hill districts) and 500 (districts in terai and the Kathmandu Valley), as many as 60 districts have so far placed prohibitory orders. Fourteen of them have implemented restriction orders in some parts of the districts while 46 others have placed the orders across the whole areas of the districts. Most districts lying in the southern belt of the country have enforced orders as Nepal’s southern neighbor has been worst hit by the virus. Only three districts in Province 2 ---Rautahat, Sarlahi and Saptai—, that share their southern borders with India, have yet to enforce the orders. Prohibitory order to come into effect in Beni from Wednesday

MYAGDI, May 4: The district administration of Myagdi has decided to enforce a prohibitory order in Beni Municipality effective from Wednesday for 10 days in a bid to break the chain of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection.

Tourism entrepreneurs demand opening of tourist areas in Mustang

MYAGDI, Dec 29: Hoteliers of Myagdi have demanded opening of tourist areas in Mustang district. COVID-19 pandemic and its risk of spreading led to the closure of all religious and tourist areas in Mustang since March. They have maintained that the areas have been closed despite the fact that they are resuming their business activities by following all safety measures.
